She entered the scene through a veil of fog

International shipping has become ubiquitous, so much so that we hardly ever notice these giant machines on the horizon anymore.  There was a time when if you saw something that large on the horizon, it would give you pause.  These days however, it’s a casual glance beyond the beach and there’s container ship the size of a small moon.  Sip some coffee, continue on, ho hum. 

But not so with this particular two-masted schooner, I’ll tell you.    

She entered the scene through a veil of fog, sails set correct and driving through the Atlantic water with a zealot’s purpose and a dancer’s grace.

One minute you’re standing on the side of a coastal road while on assignment for a tourism magazine, and the next thing you know you’re eyes are fixed on something ethereal gliding across your viewfinder.

And so here we are, ten years later with something beautiful to share from that encounter.

This motif is a blend from the photograph and some digital design work.  No robots were utilized.

It’s a technique I’ve experimented with for a year or so and I think I’ve had some great results (you can poke around the store and see some other examples) but Artifact No. 29 With a Strong Wind and a Brave Crew, feels special, and the ship sits really well on this stationery:
